Facebook Ads vs Google Ads: The 3 Big Differences

Let’s talk dancing.

It’s easy to lump all dance styles together in one big pile.

It’s just dancing, right?

Well, it’s a tad more complicated than that.

Each type of dance genre requires specific knowledge, disciplined skill set, and… appropriate shoes.

A ballet dancer is a lot different than a breakdancer.

Same with online ads.

It’s more than throwing a sales graphic on the World Wide Web and calling it a day.

There are key differences between marketing platforms.

When you’re ready to advertise online, you’ll come face-to-face with the two biggies on the PPC (Pay-Per-Click) block: Facebook Ads and Google Ads.⁣

If you don’t have the budget to do both, which one should you choose?⁣

THREE BIG DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FACEBOOK ADS AND GOOGLE ADS (not counting cost)

PAID SOCIAL VS PAID SEARCH⁣

Facebook Ads is “Paid Social” (targeting people who match specific demographics).⁣

Google Ads is “Paid Search” (targeting people who search for specific keywords). ⁣

TOP-OF-FUNNEL VS BOTTOM-OF-FUNNEL

Facebook Ads grabs top-of-the-funnel prospects (those ready to learn).⁣

Google Ads excels at bottom-of-the-funnel prospects (those ready to buy).⁣

PROMOTION VS GENERATION

Facebook Ads is best for promoting products/services (building your brand).⁣

Google Ads succeeds at generating immediate leads (with high-quality interest).⁣

While there are plenty of other distinguishing points, keep those three basics in mind.

A good rule of thumb:

  • If you’re promoting an already established product/service, Google Ads may be the best place to start.

  • If you’re promoting a brand-new product/service, Facebook Ads may be your best bet.

Ideally, as your budget grows, use both of them.

But don’t throw your money at PPC services until you understand the perfect fit.

They’re as different as ballet shoes and sneakers.
