Last week was spring break for the kiddos. As we traveled out-of-town, it was also my birthday.
We visited Dave & Buster's — basically an arcade on steroids. It’s a cavernous room filled with flashy games, flatscreen TVs, and LOUD music.
My head still hurts.
If you score well on games, you earn tickets. Tickets are then redeemed for prizes, ranging from cheap candy all the way to pricey game consoles.
My youngest son won a handful of tickets and entered the prize shop.
After he redeemed his earnings, he carried his treasure around in a bag, refusing to reveal what he chose.
As we were leaving, he pulled me to the side. “Dad, it’s your birthday. Since I don’t have money to buy you anything, I redeemed my tickets for you.”
He pulled a gift from the bag: a big, shiny coffee mug. It cost ALL of his tickets.
Speechless. Tears. I had a hard time accepting it, but it was my most memorable birthday present. I’ll never forget it.
Every time I drink from that black coffee mug, I’ll think of him. His simple, selfless act reminded me of the power of serving.
It’s the Golden Rule of life: a desire to pour into others, even if nothing is reciprocated.
That’s the spirit of our company, Genie Jar Marketing. We exist to serve fellow entrepreneurs and educate them on successful marketing.
Before launching Genie Jar, we worked many years inside the industry, serving tons of companies and observing what worked and what didn't — stuff you don’t learn in business school.
And that brings us to the present.
We want to share that cumulative experience, to educate you on what to do and what to avoid. And we like sharing it in a spirit of generosity, with no strings attached.
Sometimes we gain new customers with this approach, sometimes we don’t. And that’s okay.
It’s still our mission.
We’ll help you develop a step-by-step marketing strategy tailored specifically for your business; a customized plan showing how to generate qualified leads and ultimately, increase your revenue.

The coffee mug my son gave me had a saying on it: “Genius At Work.” It made me laugh.
But frankly, you ARE the genius at what you do. People need your expertise.
